With an opening date set for 2022 in Gardanne in the Sud region, the Puits de Sciences will be a dynamic, large-scale collaborative space devoted to scientific, technical, and industrial culture.
Having been certified as an official Operation of Interest to the Region (OIR) for the Tourism and Creative Industries strategic sector in 2018, the project benefited from financial engineering support from risingSUD’s teams in 2019.
The Puits de Science, which is French for “the Science Well”, will be dedicated to the general public, schools, scientists, and companies. It will feature diverse infrastructure and services (exhibition space, workshops, playground, FabLab, café, etc.), all with an innovative, fun, and interactive spirit. The facility will have a surface area of 4000m2 extended over two levels and it will be located within three hectares of pine forest at the Yvon Morandat economic, energy, and cultural hub in Gardanne, a small city just north of Marseille in the Bouches-du-Rhône department.
The Puits de Science has received commitments from multiple institutional partners; along with support from the City of Gardanne, the project benefits from co-financing by the Sud Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region, the Bouches-du-Rhône Departmental Council, the Aix-Marseille-Provence Metro Area, and the French national government.
Open to all good ideas and positive energy, the Puits de Sciences is deeply committed to a co-construction approach that is open to all, and participatory workshops will be organized regularly. To be associated with this initiative, contact risingSUD.
