Business fundraising: the South of France in the TOP 3 for 2023
31 January 2024This January, the In Extenso Innovation Croissance consultancy, the ESSEC Business School, and the France Angels investment network published their report on company fundraising in 2023.
With €9 billion raised by the French tech industry last year, which equals the figure for 2022, France remains the #2 country in Europe in terms of financing for this sector.
In France, energy & cleantech, software, and healthcare are the three most attractive sectors for financing. They account for 30%, 20%, and 14% of funding respectively.
For its part, the South of France once again proved to be a dynamic location for business development with companies based in the Sud Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region raising €375 million, an increase of 37% compared with 2022. This puts it in third place among French regions in terms of fundraising
In 2023, of the 55 companies in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region that sought financing, 70% were investment projects worth less than €3 million. Meanwhile, investment in cleantech continues to soar with funding for the sector nearly tripling between 2022 and 2023. Finally, the 2023 report showed that the energy sector is now the leading recipient of financing having overtaken the health sector.
