2030 Winter Olympics awarded to the French Alps

25 July 2024

At its 142nd session in Paris, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) officially accepted the bid from the French Alps to host the 2030 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, provided France fulfils the required financial guarantees.

The project for the Olympic Games in the French Alps was approved with 84 of the 95 votes cast on Wednesday, July 24. The vote was held in the presence of representatives of the sports federations and local authorities that are working on the project with the French government, including Renaud MUSELIER, President of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region and Deputy President of Régions de France, and Laurent WAUQUIEZ, current President of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region and Member of Parliament for the Haute-Loire. The official bid was presented to the IOC by French president Emmanuel Macron.

The Olympic Games will be held from February 1 to 17, 2030, followed by the Paralympic Games from March 1 to 10, 2030.

There will be two Olympic hubs in the Sud Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region :

-The Briançonnais hub: competition venues in Montgenèvre and Serre-Chevalier, as well as an Olympic and Paralympic village in Briançon

-The Nice Côte d’Azur hub: ice events, an athletes’ village, and a communications and media centre

Much more than just a sporting event, the hosting of the 2030 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in the French Alps represents an exceptional opportunity for economic development and tourism, and, more broadly, a chance to showcase the beauty and advantates of the South of France.

Long live the French Alps, long live the Olympic Games!
