42 projects to boost the regional textile industry
26 March 2025As part of the Territoires d'Industrie support program for industries, which is funded by the Région Sud and the Banque des Territoires, risingSUD carried out a study that helped define the key issues facing the regional textile sector.
This initiative analyzed and mapped all the value chains that make up the sector, including animal and plant materials, the reuse of post-consumer textiles, chemicals, and recycled materials.
Thanks to the 73 interviews conducted with stakeholders in the textile sector, this study identified 42 business and structural projects that will help boost the textiles ecosystem in the South of France. These projects, which vary in size and stage of development, are evidence of the sector’s powerful momentum and the promising synergies in the region.
This study analyzed the sector with two major questions in mind:
- How to provide targeted support for project leaders by directing them to programs and services for issues such as business engineering, access to available land, or support finding public and private financing.
- How to increase synergies in the sector through strategic reflection at the regional level, with the organization of three collaborative workshops between January and March 2025 that addressed key concerns for the future of the textile industry
The three workshops that were organized made it possible to identify possible solutions to the current challenges related to:
- the collection, sorting, and recycling of post-consumer textiles
- the structuring of the wool industry
- the pooling of industrial resources by promoting partnerships and collaborations between companies working in fashion and textiles
In addition, the French national government and the Region Sud have adopted new measures to enhance support for the wool industry with the launch of a Hackathon to identify disruptive ideas and new support initiatives offered through the Natural Living strategic sector program.
The findings from the study and workshop will be used to guide future actions to support the development and structuring of the textile industry in the South of France.
