€97 million investment to create a biocluster in the South of France!

17 May 2023

On Tuesday May 16, French President Emmanuel MACRON announced the creation of two world-class healthcare clusters in the Sud Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region.

The Sud region has notably been selected for the creation of the Marseille Immunology Biocluster, a biocluster dedicated to the development of the treatments of the future to fight cancers, autoimmune diseases, and infectious diseases. This biocluster was a winner of the national call for projects launched as part of the France 2030 public investment program.

Supported by Aix-Marseille University, the AP-HM hospital network, the Institut Paoli-Calmettes, the INSERM national institute of health and medical research, the CNRS national center for scientific research, the Eurobiomed cluster, and a large number of industrial and biotech companies, this project also benefited from technical assistance from risingSUD, which helped develop the operational and financial model via the OIR strategic sector program with help from EY and Erdyn.

Thanks to the support of the Région Sud, the Bouches-du-Rhône Departmental Council, and the Aix-Marseille-Provence Metropolis, the Marseille Immunology Biocluster project has been selected by the Agence Nationale de la Recherche, and will benefit from an investment of nearly €100 million.

In conjunction with the Innovative Therapies strategic sector, the establishment of this project in the South of France will create 250 jobs and also strengthen national sovereignty in terms of the development of new therapies linked to immunology, a major challenge as the country emerges from the post-COVID crisis.
