CARBON: key milestone reached for the construction of solar panel gigafactory in the South of France

18 April 2024

On Thursday April 18, 2024, Nicolas CHANDELLIER, the director general of CARBON, officially submitted the building permit application for Europe's largest photovoltaic factory to the city hall in Fos-sur-Mer outside of Marseille.

This represents a major milestone for the project, which is at the forefront of the region's policy to promote sustainable reindustrialization. CARBON plans to create more than 3000 direct jobs in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region by 2026 and the factory will cover all phases of the solar panel process from design to production.

Featuring an investment of €1.5 billion that has been supported by the Sud Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur Region, the site will cover almost 45 hectares and will include preserved natural areas such as a four-hectare biodiversity sanctuary.

risingSUD is proud to have supported CARBON from the outset of this project. The new factory will strengthen the economic attractiveness and industrial sovereignty of the South of France and the entire country.
